Divorced White Male
I was reading the Atlanta paper a few years ago and came across the personals in the classified section. [It beats reading an editorial by Cynthia Tucker (ABF).] If Charles Darwin were still with us, he would get a kick out of how the language of his favorite primate has continued to evolve towards the more abstract. SWF seeks SWM: [single white female seeks single white male] represents a simpler form of the new lexicon. Just about any combination, variation, and desire can be expressed in some series of capital letters. [Use your imagination HERE!]
There was a time when I was a SWM seeking a SWF. Another day, approximately 7 years later, I entered into another of those beloved Western traditions: Divorce. Since then, I have viewed most of my compatriots, male and female, participate in a succession of Western traditions: Marriage followed by divorce, followed by, you guessed it... Marriage (serial polygamy). I had opposed the order of the day for many years, until one day... Well, dear reader... you can guess how this story goes: SWM > MWM > DWM > MWM > DWM. This pattern looks curiously like an S.O.S.
